The story of passion

Bonassisa Lab was established in 2007 thanks to the skills, but above all the passion of Lucia Bonassisa.
Born in Foggia, Lucia Bonassisa graduated from the Alma Mater Studìorum University of Bologna in 1994, majoring in Biology. She turned down taking over the family business to focus on “what I felt I’d been born to do”: scientifically examining what we do not see, studying and analysing what makes up our lives, but that we do not notice.
It may seem rhetoric, but if the reasons for this choice are not explored, one cannot understand the miracle of Bonassisa Lab.

“I could have chosen an easier way of life, for myself and for my family,” she said years later in an interview with RAI television, “but I felt attracted by a challenge, actually what could be seen as a gamble in this country. Trying to do what I liked to do, attempting to make my personal choices. Biology has always been a kind of reason for living for me, that's why my company is not just my company, but the place that reminds me why I feel joy and happiness every day”.

Start-up.

Starting from a modern premises of modest size, located on the western outskirts of Foggia, Bonassisa Lab immediately showed its main advantage. Even during start-up, in fact, the reliability of its data was the engine of the company, what distinguished it from the others to the point of helping to create a kind of mantra among those in the profession: “If Bonassisa Lab said so, it must be so.”

Investment.

This transition took place in 2010, although the move to the former Corial - Barilla premises took place the following year. Of the available area, Bonassisa Lab first took over a part by setting up the laboratories moved from the old headquarters, and later invested in state-of-the-art equipment in the rest of the available space.

To date, 9 years after that first step towards growth, Bonassisa Lab occupies a total area of 5,000 square meters, giving life to an extraordinary company in terms of results and mindset.

Consolidation.

Since 2011, Bonassisa Lab has received 18 accreditations and certifications, gaining the trust of major companies in the Italian and foreign agri-food sector and becoming a partner of large-scale distribution groups such as Coop.

With over 80 employees and 150.000 tests performed each year, Bonassisa Lab is today the largest private laboratory in Central Southern Italy.
In addition to food safety, it deals with environmental safety, microbiology, mass spectrometry and many other areas, such as the training of personnel who certify what we eat every day.

“If I were to turn back,” says Lucia Bonassisa, “and look at the road we’ve travelled, it would be hard for me to believe what we’ve achieved. The story of our company is living testimony that passion for things counts a lot, almost more than talent”.
